"Jeffrey Jenkins was wrongly convicted in federal court of possessing a sawed-off shotgun based on his coerced confession extracted after police physically beat him and threatened to kill him. After his conviction by a jury, Jenkins appealed. On July 5, 1991 the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Jenkins conviction on the basis the trial judge erred in ruling that Jenkins confession was voluntary."
