"Jasper Jennings was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in January 1906 for the death of his father, Newton M. Jennings on September 7, 1905 in Josephine County, Oregon. On November 21, 1906 the Oregon Supreme Court overturned Jennings' conviction because of improper testimony by trial witnesses. Following a motion during his retrial the charges against Jasper were dismissed. Some witnesses claimed that Jasper's sister, Dora, told them she had committed the crime, but that testimony was excluded from Jennings' trial."
