Summary of Case:	"Raymond Lee Jennings was wrongly convicted on December 18, 2009 of second-degree murder with the use of a firearm in the death of college student Michelle O'Keefe in 2000 in Palmdale, California. It was his third trial. Their was no physical, forensic, eyewitness, or confession evidence linking Jennings to the crime. His first trial in Los Angeles in April 2008 ended in mistrial because the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. His second trial in Los Angeles in February 2009 also ended in a mistrial because the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. His third trial was held in Lancaster, only a few miles from Palmdale. After his conviction by a jury Raymond Jennings was sentenced was enhanced to 40 years to life in prison, because the crime involved a firearm. A post-conviction investigation of Jennings case discovered the crime was likely committed by Hispanic gang members. With the support of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Jennings conviction was reversed in June 2016 and Jennings was released on his own recognizance with electronic monitoring. The LA County DA's motion to dismiss the charges against Jennings was granted on January 23, 2017."
