Jiya was wrongly convicted of six counts of forgery related to six certificates of completion of work, which resulted in the ministry releasing K2,331,332 for schools which were not built. Jiya was a Malawi Ministry of Education quantity surveyor. His conviction was quashed in April 2007 by Malawi's Supreme Court."
