Summary of Case:

"Dennis John was wrongly convicted of driving under the influence in Ontario, Canada. John was from Southeast Asia, and he knew little English. When stopped for DUI he acknowledged he understood his rights, and he was given a breathalyzer test that showed his blood alcohol level was in excess of the legal limit of 0.08%. John was convicted based on the test. He appealed arguing he wasn't provided with an interpreter. On January 18, 2018 the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario set-aside John's conviction on the basis he wasn't provided an interpreter to ensure he properly understood his rights, and the breathalyzer test was therefore inadmissible. The Court ordered his acquittal."
