Summary of Case:

"Frank Johnson was wrongly convicted of setting a shop keeper on fire on Feb. 3, 1975. The shop keeper, who lived for three weeks after the incident, told police that Johnson wasn't his assailant. In "a statement taken from Mr. Sheridan shortly before he died ... he dismissed suggestions that Johnson was involved in the attack." (TI, 6-26-02). While hospitalized before his death, the shop keeper described Johnson to the police as "a grand lad." (TG, 6-24-02) Prosecutors not only concealed the exonerating statements by the shop keeper for over 25 years, but they claimed the shop keeper had been too injured to answer any questions. Continuing to assert his innocence for decades in prison, for years Johnson turned down parole from prison conditioned on his admission of guilt to a crime he didn't commit. Johnson's appeal was heard in England's Court of Appeals in June 2002 and his conviction was quashed on June 26, 2002."
