Summary of Case:

"Anthony Johnson was wrongly convicted in 1986 of sexually assaulting and stabbing his girlfriend to death on October 19, 1984 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Anthony Johnson was convicted on the basis of expert hair analysis of hair found on a shower cap at the crime scene, an alleged admission to the police that was not recorded, and an alleged eyewitness who said he saw Johnson driving in the area the morning of the murder. Released in 2007 after the Innocence Project New Orleans was able to have crime scene evidence DNA tested that cleared Anthony Johnson of the crime. In 2010 the perpetrator was identified from the DNA profile obtained by the testing, and Johnson was officially exonerated of the murder on September 15, 2010. Johnson was awarded $330,000 compensation by the State of Louisiana ($250,000 for his wrongful incarceration and $80,000 for "loss of life opportunities), and in 2013 he settled his federal civil rights lawsuit filed in 2010 against Washington Parish and people involved in his prosecution, for an undisclosed amount."
