Summary of Case:

"LaShawn Jermaine Johnson was wrongly convicted on November 29, 2006 of federal drug possession, drug conspiracy, and firearm related charges in Billings, Montana. Johnson's conviction was based on the testimony of a jailhouse informant. LaShawn Johnson was sentenced to 29 year 5 months in prison. Although the federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed Johnson's conviction on appeal, in July 2011 the Court ordered that he be resentenced, and on remand it was reduced by 5 years to 24 years 5 months in prison. In 2011 Johnson filed a petition for a new trial based on the prosecuton's failure to disclose that the informant was provided with a sentence reduction in exchange for her testimony. In January 2015 the U.S. Attorney's Office admitted that Johnson had not been provided with the information about the informant's deal for a reduced sentence in exchange for her testimony. The U.S. Attorney's motion to vacate Johnson's convictions and dismiss his indictment was granted on February 12, 2015. He was released after 8 years and 8 months in custody."
