"Jack Johnson aka John Arthur Johnson, was wrongly convicted in May 1913 of violating the Mann Act, by transporting his future wife, a white woman, across state lines for immoral purposes. Johnson fled the country in June, 1913 while free on bail pending appeal. He returned to the country in 1920 and served his sentence at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary for 10 months." |
