Summary of Case:

"David Allen Jones was wrongly convicted in 1995 of second-degree murder in the deaths of one women, voluntary manslaughter in the deaths of two other women, and raping a fourth woman. No witnesses or physical evidence tied Jones to the crimes. His convictions were based on his confession that he retracted as coerced by the police. His IQ of between 60 and 73 may have made him highly susceptible to police pressure. Jones was sentenced to 36 years to life in prison. Doubts about Jones' guilt led to his release from prison in March 2004. On October 23, 2004 the LA police announced that crime related DNA evidence tied another man to the crimes. His convictions were vacated and his charges were dismissed. Jones spent more than 11 years wrongly imprisoned. The City of Los Angeles settled his federal civil rights lawsuit for $720,000 on October 4, 2006. On March 15, 2007 California's Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board awarded Jones $74,600."
