Summary of Case:

"Robert Watcyn Jones was wrongly convicted in November 2014 of drunk driving in August 2013 in Castlepoint, New Zealand. Jones crashed his car and he was airlifted to a Wellington hospital with a broken leg. Jones, a 60-year-old dentist in Masterton, was charged with drunk driving based on the the test of his blood that found a blood alcohol content of 88 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit in New Zealand at the time was 80 milligrams per 100 millitres of blood. Jones' presented two defenses during his trial: 1) that prior to the crash he had been at a party where he was mainly drinking Coca-Cola, and he at most had one or maybe two alcoholic drinks, so his drinks had to have been spiked with extra alcohol; 2) his lawyer retained an doctor whose test of his blood sample showed a reading of only 73 milligrams, 7 below the limit for being legally intoxicated. After his conviction in the Masterton District Court, Jones appealed. On November 19, 2015 the High Court at Wellington overturned Jones' conviction on the basis the prosecution introduced insufficient evidence to prove his giult beyond a reasonable doubt."
