"Ronald Jones was wrongly convicted in 1989 of rape and murder in Chicago, Illinois and sentenced to death. Post-conviction DNA testing excluded Jones as the assailant. Based on the new evidence his conviction was vacated and the charges were dismissed on May 17, 1999. Jones filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Chicago that was settled in 2003 for $2.2 million, and he was awarded wrongful imprisonment compensation of $140,000 by the State of Illinois."
