"William H. Jordan was wrongly convicted on February 18, 1897 of assault with intent to murder in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. William Jordan was convicted based circumstantial evidence, while Jordan denied the crime. After his conviction in Superior Court Fitzgerald was sentenced to 8 to 15 years in prison. After a post-conviction investigation turned up a witness who cast "a strong doubt" as to Jordan's guilt, the Suffolk County District Attorney the recommended his pardon. Massachusetts Governor William Lewis Douglas granted Jordan a full pardon on December 28, 1904 and he was released from prison only seven weeks before his scheduled release."
