Summary of Case:

"Douglas Franklin Jordan Jr. was wrongly convicted on October 22, 2002 of second-degree murder in the March 1998 homicide of 22-year-old Jennifer Byerley in Blount County, Tennessee. Douglas Jordan was sentenced to 23 years in prison. On January 25, 2011 the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals granted Jordan's petition for a new trial based on favorable evidence the prosecution failed to disclose to his trial lawyer. On March 28, 2015 a jury acquitted Jordan after his retrial. On March 14, 2016 Douglas Jordan Jr. filed a 145 page federal civil rights lawsuit that named as defendants Blount County, former Blount County Sheriff's Dept. homicide detective Scott Carpenter, and Blount County Assistant District Attorney General James Brooks. On July 28, 2017 U.S. District Court Judge Pamela Reeves granted the defendant's motion for summary judgment, in ruling that the one year statute of limitations for filing the lawsuit expired one year after the appeals court's ruling reversing his conviction in January 2012."
