Summary of Case:	"Eugene Jose was wrongly convicted on March 31, 2015 of murder in the death of woman in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India on March 26, 2011. When the woman was admitted to the hospital with injuries on March 24, 2011, she told the doctors that she sustained them in a fall from a motorcycle. She died after two days of hospitalization. Jose's prosecution was based on the testimony of three people who after the woman died, told police that Jose had assaulted her. After his conviction Jose was sentenced to life in prison. Jose appealed. In October 2016 the Madras High Court set aside Jose's conviction and ordered his acquittal on the basis the testimony of the prosecution witnesses was unreliable, and therefore there was insufficient evidence to support his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The judges described the witnesses behavior of not telling the police that they witnessed the event until after the woman died as "unnatural conduct" that was inconsistent with the prosecution's theory that they witnessed the injuring of the woman."
