"Wrongly convicted in 1986, along with three co-defendants, of the August 1986 murder of Sherry Ann Duncan, a Thai-American murdered in Samut Prakan. She was 16. Exonerated by Thailand's Supreme Court in 1993, after Rungchalerm Kanokchawanchai had died in prison. In October 2003, a Thai Civil Court made an unprecedented ruling when it ordered the Royal Thai Police Office to pay 26 million baht ($1 million) to the only one of the four defendants still alive, and relatives of the other three." |
