Summary of Case:	"Marios Kappelos was wrongly convicted on December 20, 2005 of three charges relating to the illegal possession of 493.6 grams (17.4 ounces) of cannabis with the intent to sell the drugs. Kappelos was sentenced to five years imprisonment. Kappelos defense was the police planted the drugs on his motorbike. The police destroyed them and the package they were in before the package could be tested for fingerprintes or DNA. Kappelos appealed, and in May 2007 Cyprus' Supreme Court quashed Marios Kappelos' conviction on several grounds, including the unorthodox way the search of his home and motorbike was conducted, and that the drugs packaging was destroyed after Kappelos accused the police of planting the drugs, which prevented it from being tested for the presence of fingerprints or DNA."
