"Catherin Karema was co-defendant of Plisila Kamene. Both women were convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm, while a third co-defendant was acquitted. The women were convicted after a bench trial solely on the basis of a lone eyewitnesses uncorroborated testimony. Catherin Karema and Plisila Kamene appealed. On January 29, 2009 the The High Court of Kenya At Meru reversed their convictions and sentence, and acquitted them on the basis the uncorrobotated testimony of a lone eyewitness was not sufficient evidence to support the charge."
