Summary of Case: |
"Yeydat Kayreti and his former wife Serena Kayreti were known as the 'Concrete coffin' couple. They were wrongly convicted in December 1998 of manslaughter in the death of 35-year-old Fezvi Demir had allegedly been having an affair with Serena. Pathologist Paula Lanas, who has also been criticized for her conclusions in other cases, wrongly testified that the victim had been stabbed, when he actually died from a head injury. In June 2000 the Court of Appeal quashed the convictions of the Kayreti's based on the new forensic evidence. They were released from prison. Yeydat was immediately deported to his native Turkey upon his release from prison. " |
