"Archie Darrel Kiel was wrongly convicted on July 16, 2010 of manufacturing a controlled substance (marijuana). He was sentenced to serve 5 months in prison and payment of a $5,000 fine. On July 17, 2012 the Michigan Court of Appeals reversed Kiel's conviction on the basis the trial judge erred by denying Kiel from presenting an affirmative defense that he was growing medical marijuana. The Kalkaska County DA declined to retry Archie Kiel, and the DA's motion to dismiss the charges was granted on September 26, 2012."
