Summary of Case:

"Moses Kutumela was wrongly convicted of robbery with aggravating circumstances in 2000. In March 2004 Kutumela's conviction and sentence were overturned and he was ordered released immediately. However, Kutumela wasn't released for three months, until June 2004. Kutumela filed a compensation suit for his delayed release against the Justice Department and the Correctional Service Department. In May 2009 the Pretoria High Court awarded him R50,000 compensation for his deprivation of liberty, inconvenience and the discomfort he suffered. (The Rand is South Africa's money.) That amounted to US$5,850 at the exchange rate of 0.1170 on May 15, 2009."
