"Ireneusz Lachowski was wrongly convicted of homicide and armed robbery in September 23, 2002 in Poland. Ireneusz Lachowski had spent three years in jail awaiting trial after his arrest on September 20, 1999. His conviction was quashed on appeal on October 22, 2003. He was imprisoned until October 6, 2005, when he was released after six years of incarceration. he filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights about the length of his detention. He relied on Article 5 § 3 (right to liberty and security). In December 2006 the Court held unanimously that there had been a violation of Article 5 § 3. Lachowski was awarded compensation of EUR €2,000 for non-pecuniary damage. He was born in 1961."
