Summary of Case: |
"Larry Lamb was the co-defendant of Levon Jones and Ernest Matthews. The men were wrongly convicted of a 1987 robbery and murder in 1993 in Duplin County, North Carolina. Levon Jones was sentenced to death and Lamb to life in prison. After Jones and Lamb were convicted Matthews pled guilty to reduced charges and was released after serving seven years in prison. A federal judge granted Levon Jones' federal habeas corpus petition in 2006 based on the prosecution's concealment of exculpatory evidence and ineffective assistance of counsel. In May 2008 the charges were dismissed after the prosecution agreed to drop the case, Jones was released on May 2, 2008 after 15 years of wrongful imprisonment. Lamb's conviction was overturned in August 2013 and he was released on August 13, 2013 after the prosecution's motion to dismiss the charges was granted. Lamb had been wrongly imprisoned for 21 years from his arrest in August 1992. Lamb's petition for a pardon was denied, which prevented him from filing a claim for compensation from the State of North Carolina." |
