Summary of Case:

"Earnest Leap was wrongly convicted in 1992 of sexually abusing his five-year old son in Jackson County, Missouri. Leap had primary custody of his son after divorcing the boy's mother, and he was accused of inappropriately touching his son based on his ex-wife pushing her son to accuse him. To avoid a significantly longer sentence if convicted after a trial, Leap agreed to take an Alford plea in exchange for probation. In making an Alford plea a defendant does not admit guilt, but it has the same leal effect as a guilty plea. "
