Summary of Case:	"David Leroy Lee was wrongly convicted in 2009 of failing to register as a sex offender in Idaho after he moved to Belize in 2001. Lee was convicted on January 13, 1989 of Lewd Conduct with a Minor under Age 16. Lee was arrested in Belize on May 17, 2009 and extradicted to Idaho in June 2009. His defense was he didn't believe that the registration requirement applied to persons living outside the United States. After the jury convicted him Lee made a motion for a judgment of acquittal that was denied. On July 5, 2012 the Idaho Supreme Court acquitted Lee, ruling that Idaho's sex offender registration law in 2001 when Lee moved to Belize did not require registration of a person living outside the United States. See, State v. David Leroy Lee, No. 39107 (ID Sup Ct, 7-5-2012) There is no allegation that in the 23 years between 1989 and 2012 that Lee committed another sex related offense."
