Summary of Case:

"Soo Ah Lai, 60, and her two daughters Yap Siew Ling, 38, and Yap Siew Lee, 31, were wrongly convicted in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 22, 2013, of trafficking and exploiting their Cambodian maid. The three were each sentenced to 4 years imprisonment. On April 11, 2014 the High Court in Kuala Lumpur overturned the three women's convictions and acquitted them, ruling there was no evidence the maid couldn't leave the women's house and that she wasn't paid for her work, so there was insufficient evidence they violated the Anti-Trafficking in Person Act 2007. The women were subsequently released from prison."
