Summary of Case:	"Yun Hseng Liao was wrongly convicted on June 16, 2003 of assaulting and attempting with premeditation to kill Henry Chen, his ex-girlfriend Li's teenage son in West Covina, California. After his conviction by a jury Yun Hseng Liao was sentenced to life imprisonment. After convictions were affirmed on direct appeal and the California state court's denied his post-conviction petition, Liao filed a federal habeas corpus petition that was denied by the District Court judge. On April 1, 2016 the federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals granted Liao's habeas corpus petition and ordered his retrial or release. The prosecution declined to retry Liao and its motion to dismiss the charges was granted on September 9, 2016."
