Summary of Case: |
"James A. Long was wrongly convicted of robbing 2 Walgreen pharmacies in Chicago as the accomplice of another man. Arrested March 25, 1934, the day after the robberies. James Long was convicted in May 1934 and sentenced to 1 year to Life. James Long's convictions were vacated in June 1934 when all 7 eyewitnesses recanted and identified another man as the accomplice of Long's co-defendant, who was actually guilty. The Illinois legislature voted Long $12,000 in compensation, but the governor vetoed the bill. All Long got was the trial judge's admission that he had been wrongly convicted." |
