"Eddie James Lowery was wrongly convicted of rape, aggravated battery and aggravated burglary. Conviction based on a false confession by "using coercive strong-arm tactics." Eddie Lowery was paroled in 1991 after serving 10 years of wrongful imprisonment. DNA testing in 2003 of the crime's evidence excluded Lowery as the woman's attacker, and his conviction was overturned. In October 2003 Lowery filed a $15 million dollar lawsuit against the cities of Manhattan and Ogden, Kansas, and the Riley County Police Department. In January 2010 he reached a settlement of the lawsuit for $7.5 million."
