Summary of Case:

"Twice wrongly convicted of raping a 13 year old girl who accused him of raping her in 1988. She didn't accuse him of the alleged rapes until 12 years later when she was 24. David Luxford was convicted in July 2000 and sentenced to 18 years in prison. His conviction was quashed in May 2001 and he was released on bail. He was re-convicted in November 2001 after a "carbon copy" retrial. In November 2003 his conviction was quashed and the possibility of his retrial was dismissed by the Court of Appeals. Luxford's wife, Greer, spent £100,000 pounds (about $200,000) amassing proof that her husband could not have committed the rapes. The woman was proven to have perjured herself at David Luxford's trials, however she was not prosecuted for her perjury. Under the UK's sexual "victim" shield law, her name cannot be publicly revealed."

Conviction Caused By:

"Perjury by the prosecution's sole witness, the alleged "victim.""

Innocence Proved By:

"Conviction quashed twice by the UK's Court of Appeal. First in May 2001, and after Luxford's reconviction, in November 2003."
