Summary of Case:

"In 1978, seven gang members - known as the "Maatz Gang" - were accused of arsons and planning the murders of judges and policemen in Israel. Based on their own admissions, they were all convicted and sentenced to imprisonment terms between 3 and 10 years. 14 years later, a policeman involved in the investigation of 4 of them, confessed that their confessions were taken using violence and humiliations and that their confessions were forged. The four requested a new trial. In 1998 the court canceled their conviction, after the prosecution agreed to acquit them due to new evidence found. In 2002 three of the "Maatz Gang" were awarded NIS 3.1 million in compensation."
