On November 27, 1916 Michigan Governor Woodbridge Ferris granted MacGregor a full pardon in stating, "I am firmly convinced that Dr. MacGregor is absolutely innocent of the crime for which he was convicted. I am satisfied that in sending him to prison, the State of Michigan has made a terrible mistake.""
