Summary of Case:

"Ernest Madison was wrongly convicted of three counts of mail fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud in federal court in Manhattan in 1970. The government's alleged that Madison had used lost or stolen credits to obtain airline tickets. Madison's convictions were affirmed in April 1972 by the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. After the U.S. Supreme Court clarified the scope of the mail fraud statute in U.S. v. Maze, 414 US 395 (1974), Madison filed a writ of coram nobis to vacate his mail fraud convictions on the basis he hadn't committed a crime. His writ was granted by the U.S. District Court in 1974, and the government didn't appeal."
