Summary of Case:

"Daniel Mahlalela was wrongly convicted on November 1, 2000 of murder and robbery of R8,000 from the victim in Pretoria, South Africa. After his conviction following a bench trial, Mahlalela's prosecution was based on the suspicious action that on the day of the crime he and two other men each deposited R2,000 in the same bank and were assited by the same teller. Mahlalela was sentenced to life in prison for murder, and 25 years in prison for robbery. On November 30, 2016 the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein reversed Mahlalela's conviction and ordered his acquittal based on the prosecution's failure to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt by relying on suspicion and not evidence."
