"Zachariah Malulika was wrongly convicted of raping a 5-year-old girl on February 23, 2010 in Lusaka, Zambia when he was 79-years-old. The prosecution's case was based on hearsay testimony by the girl's mother of what the girl allegedly told her. After his conviction in the Lusaka High Court Malulika was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In August 2013 Malulika's conviction and 15 year sentence were quashed by Zambia's Supreme Court based on the lack of evidence corroborating the mother's hearsay testimony her daughter had been defiled."
