Summary of Case:	"An Arab man was wrongly convicted in Abu Dhabi, UAE of forgery and use of a forged document. The man's prosecution was based on him providing a forged check to rent a house. When the check was presented at the bank the renters discovered that the defendant didn't have an account at the bank. The man's defense was that a friend had given him the check to give to the real estate agents as security for a house rental, and he had no idea it was a forged check. Two witnesses testified in the man's defense. The man's friend was also charged, but also denied the charges, and he was acquitted by the trial court. After his conviction by the Criminal Court of First Instance, the man was sentenced to two months imprisonment. He appealed and his conviction and sentence were affirmed. On May 18, 2017 the UAE's Federal Supreme Court set-aside the man's conviction and ordered his acquittal based on the prosecution's failure to introduce sufficient evidence to prove his guilt."
