The man's son was with him, and because he was seriously distress by the accident, the man left his driver's license with onlookers and drove his son to their nearby home. After the man's conviction he was sentenced to six months in jail. On April 21, 2016 his conviction was overturned by NSW District Court Judge Paul Conlon who ruled, "I'm satisfied that given the rather unusual factual circumstances in this matter, it should be dismissed [without recording a conviction]." The man's name was withheld for legal reasons."
