Summary of Case:	"Wrongly convicted in March 2008 of dealing in heroin based on the testimony of three police officers that he threw a cigarette box with heroin in it in a trash container. He insisted he was innocent and the police search of his apartment and investigation of his background and friends turned up no additional evidence he was involved with drugs. A Pakistani working in Bahrain, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, fined BD5,000, and ordered deported after he completed his sentence. After his sentencing he told the judge, "I have been sentenced to 10 years in jail for something I didn't do !" He appealed, and on September 29, 2008 Bahrain's High Criminal Appeal Court ruled the three police witnesses gave conflicting statements and that there was insufficient evidence of his guilt apart from those statements, and overturned his conviction and ordered his release. In custody since his July 2007 arrest, he was released after 14 months of false imprisonment."
