Summary of Case:

"Theodore Marcinkiewicz was codefendant of Joseph Majczek. Both men were wrongly convicted of murdering a policeman in Chicago and sentenced to 99 years in prison. The men's convictions were based on the perjurious testimony of the prosecution's star eyewitness. Majczek's story was the subject of movie "Call Northside 777" (1948) starring Jimmy Stewart. Both men were arrested in December 1932 and convicted in February 1933. Majczek was pardoned by Illinois' governor and released in 1945. Theodore Marcinkiewicz was released in 1950 when an Illinois state judge granted his habeas corpus petition based on evidence the prosecution's key witness lied. Although Majczek was awarded $24,000 in compensation by the Illinois legislature, Marcinkiewicz was denied compensation by the Illinois Court of Claims for his almost 18 years of wrongful imprisonment."
