Summary of Case:

"Angelo Martinez was wrongly convicted on September 10, 1986 of murdering a 70 year-old man outside a Queens, New York bingo hall on April 10, 1985. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. In 2001 another man confessed that he had committed the murder, and he provided details that weren't released to the public. Based on the new evidence another man committed the crime Martinez filed a motion for a new trial on June 12, 2002. The motion was granted and the charges were subsequently dismissed. Martinez was released on bail on July 22, 2002 pending the resolution of his federal conviction for selling cocaine in prison while he was imprisoned for the murder. Martinez' sentence of 24 years and 4 months was commuted to time served because it was enhanced due to his wrongful murder conviction."
