Summary of Case:	"Fifty-six people convicted on July 31, 2007 of charges related to the August 6, 1991 massacre of Eight Dalits by lynching on August 6, 1991 due to caste enmity and eve-teasing in Tsundur village, about 20 km from Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Dr. Ravi Kumar who conducted the post-mortems committed suicide a few days later. The special court set up to try the case acquitted 123 out of the 179 defendants. Twenty-one defendants were found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison and a fine of Rs.2,000 each. Thirty-five defendants were found guilty of lesser charges and sentenced to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs.2,000 each. On April 22, 2014 the Andhra Pradesh High Court reversed the convictions of all 56 defendants on the basis of insufficient evidence to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The Court's ruling pointed out the prosecution had failed to prove the exact time and place of death of the victims, and the identity of the attackers."
