Summary of Case:

"Thomas E Maze was wrongly convicted of four counts of mail fraud and one count of violating the Dyer Act in federal court in Louisville, Kentucky in 1971. The mail fraud counts of the indictment charged that Maze defrauded a Louisville bank, Charles L. Meredith, and several merchants in different States by unlawfully obtaining possession of a BankAmericard issued by the Louisville bank to Meredith, and using the card to rent rooms in four motels. Maze appealed and in 1972 the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit reversed his mail fraud convictions on the basis the government hadn't proven he committed a crime. The government appealed, and in 1974 the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the Circuit Court's ruling vacating his mail fraud convictions."
