Summary of Case:

"Joseph B. McClelland was wrongly convicted in 1984 in federal court Reno, Nevada of extortion. After McClelland had served his sentence the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling encompassing McClelland's case that the judge had issued an erroneous jury instruction that relieved the government of proving every essential element of extortion beyond a reasonable doubt. McClelland filed a petition for a writ of coram nobis that was denied by the U.S. District Court. In 1991 the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the lower court ruling and granted McClelland's writ of coram nobis and ordered his new trial."
