Summary of Case:

"Adam McIntyre was wrongly convicted on April 10, 2008 in Grand Court of theft and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. Adam McIntyre was a 17-year prison correctional officer, and he was charged with stealing money given to him for the benefit of eight inmates, between 1999 and 2005. Amounts involved totaled less than $3,200. He did not steal any of the money or use it for his personal use, but the judge who presided over the 10-day bench trial considered what the prosecution characterized as his mishandling of the money to constitute theft. On August 28, 2009 the Cayman Island's Court of Appeal overturned McIntyre's convictions on the basis of insufficient evidence and ordered his acquittal."
