Summary of Case:

"Lamonte McIntyre was wrongly convicted of a double murder committed on April 19, 1994 in Kansas City, Kansas. After his conviction by a jury McIntyre was sentenced to two life terms in prison. A post-conviction investigation of McIntyre's case resulted in evidence of serious ethical violations by the police detective who investigated the case, the prosecution, and the judge who presided over his case. On October 13, 2017 Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree Sr. annonced during the second day of a scheduled week long evidentiary hearing of McIntyre's post-conviction petition that the State would no long contest McIntyre's innocence. McIntyre was released from custody the same day. McIntyre filed a claim under Kansas' 2018 wrongful imprisonment compensation law. His claim was opposed by the State of Kansas. On February 4, 2020 Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced that the State was dropping its opposition to McIntyre's claim. Under the law McIntyre is eligible for $65,000 for each year of wrongful imprisonment plus his attorney fees and other expenses -- so he could be awarded around $1.5 million by a Shawnee County District Court judge."
