"Charles McKenzie was wrongly convicted in 2013 of stealing electricity for use in his 14th floor apartment in February 2012 in Dundee, Scotland. McKenzie pled guilty and was sentenced to 14 months in prison. McKenzie appealed. In July 2015 the High Court in Edinburgh quashed McKenzie's conviction on the basis the search of his apartment was illegal, because the police did not otain a warrant. The High Court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove McKenzie committed a crime without the evidence illegally obtained during the search."
