Summary of Case:

"Kenneth McPherson aka JR was codefendant of his brother Eric Simmons. Both were wrongly convicted in 1995 of Conspiracy to commit First Degree Murder committed in Baltimore County, Maryland in 1994. After their convictions McPherson and Simmons were each sentenced to life imprisonment. Kenneth McPherson and Eric Simmons were exonerated in 2019 based on new evidence. In supporting the reversal of McPherson and Simmons' convictions, Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said that Mr McPherson was at a nearby party when the shooting happened and that Simmons was home in bed. They were released from prison in May 2019. In June 2020 the Maryland Board of Public Works approved wrongful imprisonment compensation of $81,868 for each year of McPherson and Simmons' confinement after their convictions, a total of about 1.9 million each. The money is to be paid over a seven year period of time."
