"William Francis Melchert-Dinkel was wrongly convicted in September 2014 in Rice County, Minnesota District Court of assisting the suicide of Nadia Kajouji of Ottawa, Canada on March 9, 2008 by way of "internet correspondence." Melchert-Dinkel was sentenced on October 15, 2014 to 6 months in jail and a 3 year prison sentence that was suspended pending his successful completion of 3 years probation. On December 28, 2015 the Minnesota Court of Appeals reversed Melchert-Dinkel's conviction on the basis the prosecution introduced insufficient evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt."
