Summary of Case:

"Wrongly convicted in March 2005 of the April 2002 machette murder of a friend. Mes' conviction was based on a statement at the time of his arrest that police interpreted as incriminating. On March 20, 2006, the Belize Court of Appeals quashed Mes' conviction based on evidence that another man, also convicted of the murder and given a life sentence, had committed the murder alone as the result of an argument. Mes had simply witnessed the murder, and that was insufficient to make him criminally liable."
