Summary of Case:	"Alan Micallef was wrongly convicted on November 10, 2014 of the aggraved theft of a handbag in Hamrun, Malta. Micallef was prosecuted based on his arrest on October 10, 2007 as he approached a police station with a handbag that he said he had found resting against the wheel of a parked car. After his conviction in the Court of Magistrates, Micallef appealed. On April 14, 2016 Malta's Court of Criminal Appeal overturned Micallef's conviction based on insufficient evidence, ruling that the prosecution's circumstantial evidence was undercut by the admission of the handbag's owner that she could have accidentally dropped it as she got out of her car, that none of the contents of the bag were missing, and that Micallef was walking toward the police station with the handbag in plain sight at the time of his arrest."
